Have a Highland fling in Inverness, where the castle inspires royal ghost stories and pipe bands provide summer sounds. The last battle fought on British soil, circa 1746, raged just outside the city on Culloden Moor. Wander among the stone buildings and over suspension bridges spanning the River Ness before grabbing a pint from a local pub or choosing from one of the many international eateries.
