Belfast
Linen-opolis
Belfast is the capital - and largest city in Northern Ireland, situated on the East coast of the country on the banks of the River Lagan. Its location meant that by the early 19th century it was a major port, playing an important role in the Industrial Revolution in Ireland. Belfast was briefly the biggest linen producer in the world, nicknamed Linenopolis.\n\n
Home to the most famous ship in history
Shipbuilding was another key industry in Belfast's past - in fact, the most famous ship in history was designed, built, and launched at the Harland & Wolff shipyard in 1911. A monument to The RMS Titanic is the city's (and the world's) must-visit attraction, housed within a striking building: Titanic Belfast.
