The Rochdale Canal and Calder & Hebble Navigation meet at Sowerby Bridge and the Wharf area is the heart of the town's great food and drink offering. The town has featured in the hit series, 'Happy Valley' starring Sarah Lancashire as strong-willed police sergeant, Catherine Cawood. Just down the road and surrounded by breathtaking countryside, the beguiling town of Hebden Bridge is known for its arty and creative identity. If its winding streets look familiar, it is because this quirky and charismatic town has caught the eye of many a TV and film director, propelling it to star status. Some of the films and shows made here include Sharpe, Swallows & Amazons and of course, Happy Valley.nnContinue into Halifax, once the heart of England's woollen industry and home to some of the region's best-preserved Victorian and Georgian landmarks. It is well worth taking time out to get to know this charming Yorkshire market town with its inimitable character and historical vitality. Be sure to pop into the handsome 15th Century Minster (where Anne Lister is buried) to enjoy the beautiful interiors complete with painted wooden ceiling panels. Star of the show must surely be the magnificent Piece Hall. A unique Grade I listed Georgian masterpiece, it is the oldest remaining cloth hall in Britain. Following a multi-million pound transformation project, it is now a world class cultural and leisure destination with its grand open-air courtyard surrounded by a mix of independent galleries, shops, cafes and restaurants.nnEmmerdale Village Tour & Harewood HousenEmbark on a 90 minute, fully guided, outside walking tour where you'll explore the village and see exterior sets of The Woolpack, Café Mainstreet, David's Shop and many more - with plenty of time to take photos. Saunter past the familiar haunts of Bob's Café, the village church and rows of stone cottages known as home for over 43 years to your favourite Emmerdale characters. Guides will share secrets, stories and reveal fascinating facts behind the making of the multi-award winning, ITV soap. Emmerdale village as it is today, was purpose built in the grounds of Harewood House (no entrance to the house) over 17 years ago after the programme's former location of Esholt became so popular with visitors, filming scenes became impossible. It is only recently that this secluded and somewhat secret location has become accessible to visitors.nnNB The Emmerdale Village Tour is an outside walking tour with uneven surfaces and some hilly areas. The House was built in the 18th century and has art collections to rival the finest in Britain. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions of contemporary art and over 100 acres of exquisite gardens to explore. Harewood House was transformed into Buckingham Palace for both series 1 and 2 of the blockbuster ITV drama, Victoria. Many of the opulent rooms on the State Floor, the famous kitchens Below Stairs as well as exteriors of the house and parts of the Estate were used in the production. From hidden corridors to political scandal, Harewood has many stories to tell.nn2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the births of novelist Jane Austen (1775 - 1817) and landscape painter JMW Turner (1775 - 1851). A ground breaking exhibition illuminating the works of these legendary artistic figures opens at Harewood House on 23 May 2025 (entrance included). A speculative encounter between Turner and Austen will be brought to life through works by contemporary artists, together with rarely seen cultural artifacts from the period including period costume, party invitations and rare illustrated books and prints. Harewood has an assumed role in Austen's 1814 novel Mansfield Park. Turner painted Harewood, its landscapes and its people.nnDay 4 - Return to interchange with a stop for lunch on the way.
