Included ExcursionsBeamish (half day)Today we explore the fascinating and ever-popular living museum of Beamish which gives us the opportunity to discover the amazing industrial heritage in the North of England. From the 1940s farm to the early 20th-century Pit Village, we take a step back in time as we meet costumed characters and catch a tram through The Town: a typical market town from the years leading up to the First World War.Angel of the North & Durham (full day)We start the day with a short stop for a photo opportunity at the Angel of the North in Gateshead, one of the most famous sculptures in the UK. This impressive steel sculpture has been welcoming visitors to Newcastle Gateshead since 1998 and, at 54m wide and 20m high (with a wingspan as big as a jumbo jet!); it is believed to be the largest angel sculpture in the world.Next, we head to Durham, a handsome University City set on the peaceful banks of the River Wear. The city is home to an array of historic buildings, most notably the Norman cathedral and the 11th-century castle; both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.Hadrian's Wall & Chesters Fort (full day)Today we travel to Hadrian's Wall, built by the Romans as a fortification across Britain some two thousand years ago. An amazing achievement, stretching from coast to coast, the Hadrian's Wall path is 84 miles long. We explore this fascinating archaeological site with a guided tour following George Wade's Military Road on our way to Chesters Fort, part of the wall and the best-preserved Roman cavalry fort in the country.

Hadrian’s Wall & Chesters Roman Fort
Built some 2,000 years ago on the orders of emperor Hadrian following his visit to Britain in AD122, Hadrian's Wall was once the northern frontier of the mighty Roman Empire. Stretching from coast to coast in northern England, with Roman ruins and fascinating museums to discover, this is the best preserved and best known of Rome's great frontiers.
Chesters Roman Fort is part of Hadrian's Wall and the most complete Roman cavalry fort in Britain, built to house a Roman army garrison guarding the nearby bridge across the River Tyne. The site boasts well-preserved baths and steam room, as well asofficers' quarters.
Explore the rich history of Hadrian's Wall, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and take in the spectacular views of the dramatic and rugged landscape.

The heritage city of Durham is a real gem in the North East and a great place to visit all year round.
