The pretty harbour town of Oban is without doubt the most popular resort in the Western Highlands. Nestling in a crescent-shaped bay, 'The Gateway to the Isles' captivates visitors with its Victorian charm, wonderful views of the hills of Mull, excellent seafood scene and its most famous landmark, McCaig's Tower, a Colosseum-like folly. Staying in the centre of this lively town with its constant harbour comings and goings, you will enjoy a full day out to the picturesque isles of the Inner Hebrides - Mull and Iona. For true drama, enjoy a full day out at magnificent Benmore Botanic Garden, set in a stunning mountain setting, as well as a visit to romantic Inveraray Castle & Gardens, the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll, Chiefs of the Clan Campbell.

You will take the 45 minute ferry crossing from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull, home to some of the finest and most varied scenery in the Inner Hebrides. The scenic drive through the island is via Glen More to Fionnphort where a foot passenger ferry departs for the tiny island of Iona, known for its tranquility, heritage, Abbey (entrance not included - approx. £10 pp in 2024 - booking in advance is recommended) and history. Its 120 acres are home to a world-famous collection of plants from the Orient and the Himalaya to North and South America, including over 300 species of rhododendrons. Benmore welcomes visitors through an avenue of 150 year old giant redwoods, arguably one of the finest entrances to any botanic garden.
