Itinerary
ItineraryDay 1After joining the coach, we make our way to our hotel in Blackpool, arriving in time for dinner.Day 2 - Wartime Blackpool & CleveleysToday we take a guided tour of Blackpool to learn all about its wartime connections and its role as the administrative headquarters of the Polish Air Force. We also discover how this popular seaside resort was only spared from bombing because Hitler had earmarked it as a personal playground once he was victorious! There is evidence that he wanted to protect three piers as well as Blackpool Tower, despite the fact that it was used as a radar mast during the Second World War, as he once envisioned his troops proudly parading down the Golden Mile and hoisting a Swastika to the top of it.Our next stop is the charming town of Cleveleys, another beloved spot along the Fylde Coast. Highlights include its sandy beach, award-winning promenade and the Mythic Coast artwork trail, beginning with the Shipwreck Memorial. Our wartime tour continues here and we find out the role the town played, such as The Venue (once the Royal Hotel) being used as a hospital for Polish airmen.Day 3 - Day at leisureWe enjoy a day at leisure today to either relax at the hotel or discover the many delights of Blackpool.Day 4 - Lake District & Dad's Army TributeWe make our way to the spectacular Lake District, stopping first in the market town of Kendal, the southern gateway to the Lakes and home of the famous Kendal mint cake. There are also plenty of cafés and boutiques as well as one of the country's oldest museums plus an award-winning art gallery housed in a beautiful Grade I listed villa. Next stop is Bowness-on-Windermere, a charming enclave on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere with its craft and gift shops and lakeside tea rooms. The enchanting World of Beatrix Potter Attraction is another highlight, where an endearing short film presentation, exhibition and garden bring Beatrix Potter's celebrated characters to life.Later, we take our seats for the highlight of our trip, the Dad's Army Tribute show. With banners, posters and bunting adding to the 1940s atmosphere, this afternoon of nostalgic entertainment promises to have you laughing and singing along!Day 5After breakfast, we check out and board the coach for the journey home.Please note: itinerary order subject to change.
