Description
HIGHLIGHTS: Sidmouth, Swanage, Portland, Dorchester, Seaton.
Weymouth first became fashionable when King George III visited in the late 18th Century, and fine Georgian terraces still line the wide esplanade to this day. Quaint little back streets wind around the old harbour and the magnificent sweep of Weymouth Bay offers golden sands. You will be met with the traditional delights of the English seaside and award-winning parks and gardens as well as interesting shops and a leisurely atmosphere along with the contrasting countryside of Dorset on your doorstep too!
**Please note it is a condition of travel with Grand UK, for all passengers to hold valid travel insurance for the duration of their tour.**
Itinerary
Excursions
FULL DAY: A full day along the Jurassic Coast today to visit the twin resorts of Seaton and Sidmouth. First to Seaton, at the mouth of the River Axe, where it is possible to ride on the resort's unique tramway, or perhaps stroll beside the many colourful beach huts adorning the seafront. We continue on this afternoon to the elegant resort of Sidmouth with its air of opulence and where the beach is set between spectacular cliffs that line the Jurassic Heritage Coast.
FULL DAY: We start our day on the neighbouring island of Portland, linked to the mainland across Portland Harbour, to take in spectacular views across Chesil Beach, before we head inland to visit the handsome county town of Dorchester - famous for being portrayed as 'Casterbridge' in Thomas Hardy's novels.
HALF DAY: Today we meander through the Dorset countryside, past picturebook Corfe Castle, to spend some time in the small seaside resort of Swanage, which has a lovely sandy beach and some fine cliff scenery.
