Durham, Alnwick & Newcastle Weekend
Included Excursions
North East Coast Drive & Newcastle (full day)
We board the coach and head to Alnwick, taking in the beautiful views of the northeast coast along the way. Alnwick is a charming and historic market town, nestled in the heart of Northumberland, England. Known for its stunning medieval castle, which served as a filming location for the famous Harry Potter movies. Next, we visit the prestigious city of Newcastle, home to an abundance of fascinating history and heritage, with the superb Cathedral Church of St Nicholas and Newcastle Castle - a medieval fortress originally built to guard the bridge over the River Tyne. Newcastle boasts brilliant shopping opportunities from the Eldon Square Shopping Centre as well as the nearby complex of Gateshead Metro Centre.
Durham & Angel of the North (full day)
A thrilling piece of art located on the outskirts of Newcastle, in Gateshead, The Angel of the North rises 20 metres high above the Tyne & Wear landscape with a huge wingspan of 54 metres. You can also see the famous Tyne Bridge, a beautiful through-arch bridge from Newcastle to Gateshead - craftsmanship which cannot be missed. We then make our way to Durham, a handsome university city set on the peaceful banks of the River Wear. It is also home to an array of historic buildings, most notably the Norman Cathedral and the 11th-century castle; both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
