There's time to explore Skipton, a friendly town rich in culture and history, with plenty of places to stop for a bite and a famous market to wander around. We also enjoy a journey on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. This preserved heritage railway runs for four miles along part of the former Midland Railway route between the award-winning Bolton Abbey station and Embsay station, built in 1888. Both stations offer gift shops and tea rooms and most trains are hauled by beautifully-restored steam engines, the oldest one dating back to 1908.Manchester (full day)We take the day to explore the contemporary city of Manchester, with its iconic waterfront. Just one highlight is Salford Quays, a stylish cultural hub featuring plenty of attractions, such as the Imperial War Museum. This vibrant metropolis is also known for its outstanding high street selection of stores as well as a collection of huge shopping centres. Learn more on our guided tour and then enjoy some free time at leisure here.Lancaster & Morecambe (full day)We spend some time in Lancaster, a historic city that sits along the River Lune. Explore the many shops and cafés, the secret paths of Williamson Park or the Edwardian butterfly house. The city is also home to many sites of historical significance including Lancaster Castle where the Pendle witch trials took place in 1612.Afterwards, we take a trip to the seaside resort of Morecambe. Enjoy a stroll along the award-winning promenade with its 300m-long stone jetty and admire the Art Deco façade of the beautifully restored Midland Hotel. Don't forget to visit the Eric Morecambe statue, set against the stunning backdrop of Morecambe Bay and the hills of the Lake District.
