Itinerary
Torquay & Devon
With quaint towns, beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs and west-country charm, the glorious English Riviera is the quintessential seaside getaway and we have plenty of time to explore, with six nights on the south coast. From our base in Torquay, we hit the road and discover the coastal gem of Plymouth, the colourful towns of Brixham and Dartmouth and more, as well as a relaxing cruise on the River Exe.

Torquay & Devon
Included Excursions
Exeter & River Cruise (full day)
We spend time in the vibrant city of Exeter, the capital of Devon and home to the magnificent Exeter Cathedral, founded in the 11th century. One of the finest examples of Gothic architecture, notable features include an early set of misericords, a 15th-century astronomical clock, a minstrels' gallery and the longest uninterrupted Gothic vaulted ceiling in the world.
We set sail to enjoy a lovely cruise along the beautiful River Exe, Devon's main river and a nationally celebrated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Admire the stunning scenery, keep a watch out for the local wildlife and revel in the peaceful surroundings as we cruise these calm waters. We then spend some free time in Exmouth. One of the oldest seaside towns in Devon, Exmouth offers a lovely small harbour and two miles of sandy beach, perfect for a stroll along the shoreline.
Plymouth & Dartmoor (full day)
Today we make our way to Plymouth, taking the scenic route through Dartmoor and stopping at Moretonhampstead, a picturesque town nestled in Dartmoor National Park. Once we arrive in Plymouth, we have time at leisure to explore this energetic waterfront city, known for its university and breathtaking views of the ocean. Enjoy the fresh air and the scenery while you take a stroll around the Waterfront and immerse yourself in the city's rich maritime heritage.
Brixham & Dartmouth (full day)
Our first stop today is Brixham, an attractive port with colourful fisher cottages on the surrounding hillsides. Explore the winding streets, snug with bustling arcades and gift shops. The horseshoe harbour is well worth a look too, being home to a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship, the Golden Hind.
We then make our way to the riverside town of Dartmouth. Known as the 'Jewel of the South Hams' and a former home to Agatha Christie, Dartmouth is easily one of Devon's prettiest destinations thanks to its views over the estuary. Explore the pastel-coloured buildings leaning at angles and the picturesque harbour laden with yachts and pleasure boats.

Optional Excursion
Paignton (£9pp) (half day)
Once a small fishing port until the 19th century, Paignton is now one of the most popular resorts in Torbay, due to its long white sandy beaches, genteel buildings, and old-fashioned, Victorian-style pier with stunning views. Take a stroll along the traditional promenade or enjoy a bite to eat in one of the many beachfront cafés overlooking the sea. There's also a beautiful historic garden, Youngs Park, a natural habitat for wild birds and the ideal spot for relaxation.
