Itinerary
Durham, Holy Island & Beamish
A historic city, an open-air museum and a mysterious island crouching across a causeway that's regularly cut off from the rest of the world during high tide...this short break offers a delightful few days to discover everything that makes stunning Northumberland truly special!

Durham, Holy Island & Beamish
Included Excursions
Durham (half day)
From a morning departure at your local pickup we travel to Durham where we enjoy a visit en route to our hotel. Durham is a handsome University City set on the peaceful banks of the River Wear. The city is home to an array of historic buildings, most notably the Norman Cathedral and the 11th-century castle; both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Later we continue our journey to check in at our hotel.
Holy Island of Lindisfarne & Bamburgh (full day)
We start with a visit to the historic Holy Island of Lindisfarne, lying just a few miles off the Northumberland coast. Only accessible twice a day at low tide, this beautifully unspoilt island is where Christianity first took hold in Britain and is also home to a picturesque 16th-century castle and an array of wildlife.
Later we visit the lovely town of Bamburgh, located along Northumberland's spectacular coast and famous for its stunning walking trails, historic church and white sandy beaches with views stretching out to the Farne Islands.
Beamish Living Museum (half day)
The fascinating and ever-popular living museum of Beamish allows us to discover the amazing industrial heritage in the North of England. From the 1940s farm to the early 20th-century Pit Village, we take a step back in time as we meet costumed characters and catch a tram through The Town; a typical market town from the years leading up to the First World War.
