Included Excursions
Call the Midwife Locations Tour
After breakfast, we head to Chatham Dockyard where we will be greeted at the HMS Cavalier Memorial for the Locations Walking Tour. Join us on a behind-the-scenes location tour at the historic Dockyard Chatham. Walk the famous streets, guided by your costumed midwife and see popular props and sets such as 'Chummy Hill' where Nurse Noakes learnt to ride her bike!
Canterbury
We spend time in Canterbury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with quaint cobbled lanes, timber-framed buildings and medieval city walls. Relaxed and inviting, the city feels more like a town and is also the home to the oldest cathedral in England, dating back to Norman times. There is plenty to explore, from beautiful buildings to a bustling shopping centre.
Optional Excursion
Sandwich & Whitstable (£12pp)
The old town of Sandwich lies on the pretty River Stour in Kent and was once one of the Cinque Ports. With a preserved centre dotted with original buildings such as several listed public houses, the town provides a unique taste of medieval England. Stroll through the narrow winding streets or enjoy the walk along the Old Town walls, one of any English medieval town's most complete defensive circuits.
We then journey to Whitstable, a charming seaside town on Kent's north coast. Discover the small working harbour flanked by shingle beaches, pastel-coloured beach huts, weatherboard houses and an old-fashioned main street full of independent shops and galleries. There is also a small castle, with exquisite grounds, a short walk from the harbour. Originally constructed in the 1790s, the castle now houses a popular tearoom, and the stunning gardens include rose, woodland, and Regency gardens.
