Christmas in Austria

Celebrate Christmas in the heart of Austria on this enchanting coach holiday. Travel through France and Germany before arriving in the charming spa town of Bad Ischl, nestled in the picturesque Salzkammergut region. Experience the magic of Salzburg and the lakeside beauty of St Wolfgang, enjoy festive treats and a traditional Austrian Christmas lunch, and take in breathtaking Alpine scenery. With optional activities such as a cable car ride and special dining experiences, this holiday offers a perfect blend of relaxation and seasonal charm.Sunday: Following an early start we travel to Dover where we board the ferry for the short sea crossing to Calais. On arrival we rejoin our coach and continue our journey through Northern France, passing the city of Reims and onto Metz. Here we spend our first night at the Hôtel Mercure Metz Centre.

Monday: Today we continue our journey through France into Germany passing Stuttgart and Munich and on into Austria to the resort of Bad Ischl, here we spend our Christmas at the Hotel Goldenes Schiff. Bad Ischl transforms into a winter wonderland during Christmas, with its charming streets adorned in twinkling lights and festive decorations. Nestled in Austria’s Salzkammergut region, this historic spa town offers a magical holiday atmosphere, featuring traditional Christmas markets, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the scent of roasted chestnuts in the air.

Tuesday: This morning we travel through the ‘Austrian Lake District’ to Salzburg, a picturesque city known for its baroque architecture, rich musical heritage, and breathtaking Alpine scenery.

Wednesday (Christmas Eve): After breakfast we board the coach and travel to the pretty lakeshore town of St Wolfgang. We return in the afternoon for Gluhwein or punch with cakes and cookies. This evening we enjoy a traditional Austrian meal.

Thursday (Christmas Day): Our Christmas Day in Austria includes a traditional Austrian Roast Turkey Lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Friday (Boxing Day): A day at leisure, during the morning a cable car ride to one of the snow covered mountains can be arranged. This evening we are treated to a special 4 course ‘Imperial’ evening meal.

Saturday: Today we leave this beautiful region and commence our homeward journey through Germany into France and our last night at the Hôtel Mercure Metz Centre.

Sunday: After breakfast we leave Metz and continue through France to Calais where we board the ferry for the return crossing to Dover, on arrival we rejoin our coach and head towards home arriving during the evening.Hotel Goldenes Schiff is a historic four-star hotel located in the heart of Bad Ischl, along the Traun River, with panoramic river views, air conditioning, and modern amenities.
